The Reverend Mervyn Hammond Jr., 59, of St. Charles, MO, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2014 at St Joseph Hospital in St Charles, MO.
 
Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at The Family Vision Library at 2020 Parkway Dr in St. Peters, MO.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday March 8th at Church of the Nazarene in Junction City, KS, with the Reverend Kit Tabor of Wichita, Kansas officiating.

Memorials may be given to US Bank in St. Charles, MO care of The Bishop Mervyn Hammond Jr. Memorial Fund or they may be mailed to P.O. Box 430, Saint Charles, MO 63302  All proceeds will be used to support his wife, Rose Hammond.  Styger Funeral Home of Florissant, MO is handling the arrangements.
 
Mervyn was born in Manhattan, Kansas to Mervyn Sr., and Laurette Hammond on January 3, 1955.  He graduated from Junction City High school and accepted his call to ministry at the age of 18.  Mervyn was active in music ministry; singing, playing piano and organ and directing various choirs.  He married Rose Mary Walls in 1974 and they were blessed with nine children.  He graduated from Kansas State University in 1988 with a Bachelors of Arts in Secondary Education with an emphasis in social studies.  He taught History and Economics at Northwest High School (Wichita, KS) and Junction City High School (Junction City, KS) from 1988 to 1996.  Mervyn continued serving in various pastoral and music ministry positions during this time and was ordained in the Church of God (Anderson).
 
In 1994 he accepted the call to become the Senior Pastor at the First Church of God (which later became Faith Covenant Christian Center) in Junction City, KS, and served this congregation for ten years.  In 2005 Mervyn relocated to St. Charles, Missouri to plant Faith Covenant Ministries and later accepted an elevation to the office of bishop; being consecrated by his Eminence, Archbishop Dr. Will Boyd.  In October of 2010 his oldest son (Michael) succeed him as senior pastor of Faith Covenant as he responded to God's call to a larger mission field.    Until his death he served as Overseer of Faith Covenant Ministries and as the Chief Advisor to the Metropolitan Archbishop of Zion Ministries International.
 
Mervyn is preceded in death by his father Mervyn Hammond Sr, his father-in-law Robert Walls, his sister-in-law Carolyn King, his grandmothers Alma Starnes & Verna Mae Hammond, & his grandfathers Robert Hammond, Sherman Cobb & Edward Starnes and his nephew Samuel Walls.
 
Mervyn is survived by his wife Rose Hammond & daughter/granddaughter Tyanna of St. Charles, MO, his children: Michael Hammond Sr. & Tara, Jennifer Hammond, Jessica Hammond, Marcus Hammond, Janet Green & Marvin, Jeanette Davis & Marlon, Jacquelyn Flanders & Michael, Mervyn Hammond III, &  JoAnne Jones; his sister Trish Walls & Robert, his mother Laurette Hammond & mother-in-law Mary Walls, his grandchildren: Mikaela, Ariana, Carolyn, Joshua, Tyanna, Jordan, Jayla, Michael Jr, Naomi, Isabella, Marvin III, Natalie, Nathaniel, David, Savannah & Lilliana (coming soon); his brother-in-law Jonathan & wife Felicia, his nieces & nephews: Kessya, Glenn, Kimbo, Robert Walls III, Camille, Crystal, Perris, Greg, & Hannah; his uncle James Hammond & wife Marla, his cousins Jason & Jamie, Robert 8 great nieces & 4 great nephews and a host of close friends & family too numerous to be named.
